Depression

Oh what a scourge you are,
A reeking and unwelcomed fad,
You’ve mowed so much of our generation,
You’ve deprived so many of sanctuary,
Depression – you are lifetime’s worst tragedy…

If only you could be detected at conception,
You damned odourless and impersonal bandit,
None around your host can truly sense your charisma,
You instill doubt and fear to your host,
You’re a cancerous, unscrupulous illness…

Those you possess stay swimming in your pool of despair, They are trapped in your worldly nightfall, Theirs are loud voiceless screams, They cry silently yet with flooding tears, Their unheard pleas tell of excruciating tales…

Your blatant deceits become your host’s truth,
You layer their feelings of emptiness as they pile up daily, None notices the host’s explicit dormant struggles, Their anger burns their reality, They feel heavy yet manage to fake a smile…

Your unpleasant spree has claimed so many lives,
Your greed knows no age, status or gender,
You’ve ruthlessly crippled all sorts of families,
Loved ones are left with unanswered questions,
And that leaves a gaping dark hole for you to slither back to your next victims!
